Oct 30, 2017

So I have just a few things, some old and some new, that I have been loving this month that I wanted to share with you guys.

First up I have been in love with this hydrating body oil I got from TJ Maxx. It smells so good and I love the way it feels on my skin. When I first purchased it, I did not like it because I thought it absorbed into the skin too quickly, but the more I've used it the more I love how it feels!

Next is my go to lip color, Whirl by MAC. It is a brown/pink matte color that I think looks good on everyone and is definitely going to stay in my handbag all fall.

Next, I received this Origins retexturing rose clay mask from Influenster a few months ago and have been testing it out along with origins Serum and Matte moisturizer. This mask is my favorite out of that trio. It is a wash off mask that gently exfoliates and I see a difference immediately after using it.

I received this Burberry Touch perfume as a gift from my boyfriend and have been wearing it since the day he gave it to me. It is a very soft fragrance with notes of cranberry, rose and vanilla that make it wearable for the fall weather.

Always a staple in my skincare routine is this lip mask from Laneige. I've mentioned it in a previous skincare post and it is sill everything I said it was. Slather it on your lips before bed and you will wake up with the softest lips ever.

I am a lover of matte lips and when I cant find a lipstick shade that suits what I  need I turn to lipliners. I absolutely love Milani lipliners as an all over lip color, especially these two in Natural and Nude.

My last favorite is my name necklace that has been purchased over and over throughout my life, lol. I love a name plate necklace, it's just a staple for me. I love dainty gold jewelry so this has always fit my aesthetic. I got this one from mynamenecklace.com.

My top beauty trick for your nails

Oct 24, 2017

Like most of us, I am all about looking my best and saving money at the same time! For me, hair and nails are a must as far as looking put together. If my hair is not done, I am ugly and there is nothing you can say to convince me otherwise. And if my nails are not done, I just feel like the crustiest human being on earth. Needless to say I try to keep both up to par as much as I can. I have been a slave to acrylic and gel nails since I was 16 and being 29 now, I can tell you that I have had to take breaks from the nail shop every once in a while because truth be told, artificial nails can do more harm than good to the health of your nails and can put a dent in your pocket depending on what you like to get.

So in between nail shop visits, when Im trying to give my nails or my pockets a break I live for glue on nails! They are cheap, easy to apply and literally last me two weeks. As along as you remove them properly (soak for 5 mins in acetone) they will not damage your nails. I get my false nails from eBay (link below) for about $7.

To apply:
1. Start off with clean nails.
2. File your nail surface just a little, because the nails stick better to a rough surface and this helps them stay on longer.
3. Glue on by size and paint!

If you are looking to give your nails a break but still want to get cute or just cant afford to go to the salon at the moment, this is going to be a a life saver. Everything I used can be purchased using the links above!

4 Podcast you Need to Listen To!

Oct 5, 2017

I discovered podcasts maybe two years ago and I have been hooked ever since. I listen to mostly self development podcasts that offer advice on how to live your best life and it's usually how I like to start my day. Here's a list of my favorite ones that I think everyone should listen to as they have something to offer everyone!

1. GirlBoss Radio - This is hosted by author and Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso. Every week she has a different guest and they discuss success and what it mean to them as well as how they got to where they are today. At the end of every interview Sophia asks her guests to share their "girl boss moment" which is basically a time in their week where they felt they were on top of their shit. So inspiring!

2. Style Your Mind - Hosted by author Cara Alwill Leyba (Girl Code) this podcasts basically chronicles all the ups and downs that come with being an entrepreneur and Cara also interviews different people who share their experiences and stories throughout life.

3. For the Culture (JustinJ and Adrianxpression) - I love this podcast! Not only is it so funny and entertaining, it touches on all the social issues that we are facing today as well as the messy stuff you see on The Shade Room, they talk about it all! Hosted by YouTubers JustinJ and Adrian (of Adrianxpression) this podcast will having you dying of laughter while keeping you well informed!

5. Myleik Teele's podcast - The founder of Curl Box, Myleik Teele offers real life advice as well as advice for up and coming entrepreneurs who are trying to figure out how to navigate life. Myleik answers real life questions from her listeners and what I love about her podcast is that she is so straight forward in her answers. It's like talking to that one friend who you know is gonna give you the real deal even if it hurts your feelings (we all need a friend like that).  Her podcast is a must listen, especially if you are trying yo start your own business.

Andy Warhol at the High

Sep 16, 2017

Last weekend my boyfriend and I got the chance to see the amazing Andy Warhol exhibit at the High Museum of Art here in Atlanta. I'm pretty sure you all know who Andy Warhol is but if you do not know, he was an American artist, director and producer mostly known for his artistry during the pop art movement. Before seeing this exhibit, the image that always sticks out in my mind when Warhol's name is brought up is the Campbell Soup screen prints. I can remember seeing those images in JR high school, thinking "why the hell would someone paint campbell soup cans?" The exhibit at the high museum included those prints as well as over 250 prints by Warhol that were produced over the course of 4 decades. And from seeing the range of his art and learning the inspiration behind it, I finally recognize why Warhol was/is so Iconic. I snapped a few shots of my faves from the exhibit so I could share with you guys. I hope you enjoy these images as much as I did!

My trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico!

Sep 8, 2017

Hey Guys, I know it's been a little while since I posted a blog but that's because I was on a mini vacation/girls trip in Puerto Rico. It was my first time there and I had a blast! We stayed in the city of San Juan in the Condado Plaza Hilton Hotel minutes away from the Condado Lagoon.

We were about 25 minutes away from old San Juan, where we visited the Castillo San Felipe Del Morro, a national historic site in San Juan that was absolutely beautiful. Old San Juan houses the best shops and restaurants where I had my first taste of mofungo, a very popular dish in PR.

After visiting Old San Juan, we visited Donde Olga, basically a street food place close to the beach that had the best empanadas and pinchos (bbq meat on a stick) that I have ever had, literally! The food was everything in Puerto Rico.

donde olga

I also got visit Luquillo beach and tour the Laguna Grande on kayaks and even jumped into the water. It was around 9 pm at night so all you could see was the ocean and moonlight, so beautiful and definitely a site to see. Puerto Rico is definitely a beautiful place with so many things to see I would love to visit there again. And if you've never been, go! The food alone is worth the trip!

How #GIRLBOSS made me work harder

Aug 22, 2017

#Girlboss

So I know that everyone and their mother has read #Girlboss by Nasty Gal founder Sophia Amoruso by now, but I just had to make a post about this book. Although her business is now bankrupt, Amoruso is still a great business woman whom we all can learn a lot from. Besides her Nasty Gal store she has turned #Girlboss into a brand all its own. This book basically chronicles Amoruso time as a couch surfing, dumpster diving young adult working at subway all the way to start of her multi million dollar business. She started by opening an E-Bay store and selling things on there. Rather than go through her life story, which I am sure you can find tons of articles about on the internet already, I want to share with you guys my biggest takeaway from #Girlboss and how it made me want  work harder at my job now.

#Girlboss

It has taken me some time to figure out what I wanted to pursue as a career and while figuring things out I have had many jobs that I've often felt like was a waste of my time and creativity since it wasn't what I wanted to DO with my life. Through reading #Girlboss, I learned that even if you are at a job you hate, there are always valuable tools there you can be learning that will often translate over to your dream career. In the chapter entitled "Shitty Jobs Saved My Life" Amoruso states that all the "shitty" jobs she had before Nasty Gal taught her that "you have to be willing to tolerate some shit you don't like" and ain't that the truth! No matter where you work even if it's for yourself, there are going to be aspects of your job you just do not enjoy and that's okay. It will make the things you do enjoy that more meaningful. And I promise just from that chapter, I go to work with a more positive attitude and know that even if this isn't the exact field I want to be in, this is my training for that job I know I am meant to have. I know that if I take the time out to learn and manage difficult situations here, then I am better prepared for that dream job in my future.

The Mastery of Love

Don Miguel Ruiz

Welcome back to the Golden Moment book series! The Mastery of Love is a Toltec Wisdom book written by Don Miguel Ruiz (author of the Four Agreements) that explores the beliefs an assumptions that can consume and lead to pain in our relationships. The Toltec are people known in mexico as "woman and men of knowledge" and Ruiz has written a guide to the art of a relationship using their teachings. In this book, Ruiz uses different stories that teach you how to nurture and be happy in the relationships in your life. These teachings are not limited to just the relationship you may have with your significant other but also the relationship with your parents, brother, sisters, friends and whoever else may enter your life.

If you enjoyed The Four Agreements (who hasn't?) then please pick up this book. Ruiz has a way of telling and teaching you things you kind of already know, but through his stories, you find it way more applicable to your own life. Like when he says "...I can tell you that the right woman for you is the woman you love just the way she is,the woman you don't have the need to change at all." I feel like that is something I have always known and we have all been told but that has not stopped me in the past from choosing the wrong partner and desperately trying to mold them into what I wanted them to be. After reading this book, I promise you will have, at the very least, a better understanding of the different relationships in your life.

My New Classic: chloe

Chloe Perfume

Lately I have been really focused on building my collection of perfumes. I think I wear perfume pretty much everyday and I am definitely a girl who likes variety. Every time I step into a Sephora, Ulta, TJ Maxx, even Target, I run to the fragrance section to see if they have anything I may be interested in. On a recent trip to TJ Maxx (I go literally like everyday smh) while browsing their very picked over fragrance section, I found an open box of a Chloe perfume that I did not recognize. The bottle was a completely different silhouette than the Chloe perfumes you would find in Sephora and I loved it. The shape and the color screamed vintage and I could see it sitting and being very cute on my vanity table. After a quick google search and look at some amazon reviews, I discovered this was the Chloe launched and created by Karl Lagerfield in 1975. Since it was already open, I sprayed it on and was not impressed....at first. I thought it smelled a little too powdery and borderline "old lady" so I left it there and went to the home good section.

Chloe Perfume

After walking around for a bit and catching a whiff of the scent on my arm I went back and grabbed that perfume! Trying a perfume on your actual skin and letting it sit there for a while is a major key when purchasing a new scent. You never know how a fragrance will really smell on you until it mixes with your body chemistry a little. With notes of Jasmine and honeysuckle, I would consider this more of  night time/winter scent but I, of course, have been wearing it during the day in the summer because who cares, right? Once it settles into the skin, the powdery layer disappears and a dark floral scent takes over. It is a definitely a classic scent that gives me sophisticated grown woman vibes and I am in love with it. I feel like this is something my mother would wear (Im sure she probably has worn it) and I am ok with that because my mother has great taste and has set the standard for all things beauty in my life. This is a fragrance I'm sure will be a staple in my perfume collection from here on out and you guys can purchase the perfume here if you're interested!

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

Aug 8, 2017

Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert

As you guys may know from some of my previous post, I have started and restarted this blog many times over the last few years. It was something Ive always wanted to do and be consistent with but if I am being honest, there were many times throughout this journey where I convinced myself that my writing wasn't good enough, my pictures sucked and any other excuse I could think of to discourage myself from posting content. Then I read Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert and that whole thought process changed. I read tons of self development books that are loaded with information and instructions for life that I may or may not implement once Im done reading them. However, with Big Magic, it was like she was telling me everything I already knew and providing me the smallest tools so I can live my best creative life. I wanted to live by everything she was saying! Even if you don't consider yourself a creative person (which we all are) isn't that what we all want? To live our best life?

In Big Magic, Gilbert explains that in order for you to live the creative life you want, we must all push past the fear that hinders us from following through with things while also not putting too much pressure on your art. She says that quitting your day job and depending on your art to pay the bills (in the beginning, when you've just started creating ) often ends up killing your creativity because now there is too much pressure on your art to provide. Another big take away I got from this book was the notion thats ideas are independent entities looking for a human to nurture them and bring them to life. And if an idea comes to you and let's say you either give up on it or shelf it for too long it will find another human being to bring it to life. All I could think was "WOW" when I read this because its so true. I think everyone has thought of some idea but didn't give it the necessary time and attention so you just forget about it then a few months or years later you see someone on TV or the internet with a similar if not the very same idea you had. And they are making money or traveling the world because of this idea... yea it happens.

There are so many more great take aways from this book and of course I do not want to give everything away. If you are pursuing a creative career, lifestyle or project please pick up this book and give it a read or download the audio version and give it a listen. I promise it will spark something in you that has probably been there all along and hopefully give you the push you need to start living your best creative life.

Current Skincare Routine

Aug 2, 2017

skincare

I have been wanting to post a current skincare routine on my blog for some time now and have finally gotten around to it! Even though there may seem to be a lot or products pictured I promise my routine is quite simple as I alternate between some of these products daily depending on how my skin feels. Obviously cleansing is the first step. I am currently using this Daily Pore cleanser by clean and clear, however on most days I used organic black soap to wash my face. After cleansing toning is a must. This clarifying moisture lotion from Clinique is a favorite of mine. When I have time, I opt for one of the two under eye mask pictured (they both can be purchased here). I suffer from puffy eyes and have been trying everything to get rid of them. I will say after about 15 minutes I do see a difference. While my eye mask are doing its thing, I pop on this lip mask from Laneige. This stuff was $13 and worth every penny. You can check out my full review on both eye mask and lip mask here.

collagen jella pack

Once I am done, cleansing, toning and masking, the last step in my routine is to moisturize and use whatever under eye cream/serum I have on hand. I recently purchased this Vitamin C Eye Lift serum from TJ Maxx. To be honest with you guys, I do not see much of a difference when using this product but I am determined to use the whole bottle lol. I absolutely in love with this Collagen Jella pack (full review here) and this Argan + Vitamin E oil I purchased from TJ maxx. I use them together every night and I really think it has done wonders for the texture of my skin. The only thing I do not have pictured that I suggest everyone does at least twice a week is exfoliate. I personally love the St. Ives Apricot scrub for daily use. Please leave a comment and let me know what your favorite skincare products are. As you guys know I love trying new  skincare things!

First Impressions: Bite Beauty Liquified Lipsticks

Jul 25, 2017

Bite Beauty

I received my first VoxBox from Influenster this past week and it featured these beautiful Amuse Bouche Liquified Lipsticks from Bite Beauty. I received the colors (from R to L as pictured above) FLAMBE, ECLAIR, and DEMI-GLACE. The whole line includes 13 colors in total. The package also included their lip primer. As we all know, liquid lipsticks have been "in" for a while now, mostly coming in a matte finish. These liquid lipsticks, however, dry to a semi-glossy finish which I do not mind at all. They smell wonderful and feel very comfortable on the lips. I believe lining and filling the lips with their lip primer prior to application added to the comfortability. I will say that after eating or a few hours of wear you will need to reapply but all in all I really like the product and will be heading to Sephora to try some different colors. Please leave a comment and let me know if you guys are feeling the glossy look or are you sticking to the matte trend thats been so big these past few years?

Career Struggles: 4 Tips on Figuring Out What You Want To Do

Jul 19, 2017

I spent my whole college career and some many years after trying to figure out exactly what is I wanted to do with my life. I was the girl who changed her major several times before deciding on a criminal justice degree that is now collecting dust in a closet somewhere. While I am grateful that I did stick with something and finished and I know that this degree is one of the reasons I have the steady well-paying job that I have now, I do wish I had taken a little more time to figure out what I was really passionate about. At the age of 29, I finally figured that out and am now back in school pursuing a degree in journalism and writing this blog for fun and as a way to sharpen my skills. It took me so long to realize that what I was most passionate about is something that I’ve been doing really all my life, which is reading, writing and connecting with people through writing and stories. Here are my tips for figuring out what career path may be best for you:

1. Write Stuff Down: I have always been an advocate of journaling and just writing things down in general. You’d be surprised what you may reveal to yourself by just writing down your thoughts without even thinking about it. When it comes to making any important decisions in my life, I find that writing list help out a lot . As far as figuring out a career path, I have found that writing down things that I am interested in and things that I really enjoy help to narrow things down. Whatever career path you choose, you want to be sure that you will be doing something that you love every day.

2. Do your Research: When trying to figuring out what you want to do with your life I suggest reading up on people you admire. Whether they are in a field you want to pursue or not, I think it helps to learn how people made it to where they are. #GirlBoss is one of my favorites because the author, Sophia Amoruso, chronicles her struggles of being a young adult, homeless and working dead end jobs to a woman building a multi-million dollar empire. It is so important to do the research on any feild you think you may want to pursue. Read books on the subject, read self-development books that help build you up and make you more marketable and inspire confidence.

3. Take Action: Once you kind of have an idea of the direction you want to go in, even if you are leaning towards multiple career options, find people who are in that job now and see if you can job shadow them. With job shadowing, you are able to get a real feel of what you would be doing everyday if you decided to take that route. If you are unable to set up a job shadow, try setting up an informational interview. Write down questions before hand and ask the questions you know you will not be able to find the answers to online.

4. Let Go of Fear: My last tip is to let go of the fear that is holding you back from taking the steps needed to get started. And do not be afraid to start over and try something else. In this day and age no one expects you stay in a job or career for 20 to 30 years. It is ok to change your mind and decide that you want to do something different. Your options are endless as long as you are willing to work for what you want.

Liebster Award

Jul 15, 2017

I am so excited to be writing this post. So I rejoined twitter a few days ago in an attempt to connect with other bloggers. I wish I had rejoined sooner. I found so many new bloggers like myself, who were just as eager to connect with other bloggers as I was. As a result of this I was nominated for the Liebster Award. The idea behind this tag/award is to help new bloggers discover and connect with other blogs. This is so helpful especially to someone like me who is just finding their footing in the blogging community. Thank you so much to Kirsty (@polkalips_avon on twitter) for tagging me! And if you are reading this please head over to her blog and check out her content!

So the rules for this tag are as follows:

My Questions from Kirsty:

1. What inspires you to write?
Mostly what I'm feeling at the time inspires me to write. I've always been someone whose kept a journal so I have been writing since forever. As far as what inspires my writing for my blog, I would say if I am excited about a new product and also looking at other blogs inspire me to write.

My boyfriend and my dog Charlie.

4. Favourite tipple?

I would like for it to be a creative outlet more than anything and also a way for me to connect with different people.

6. Do you have any blogging regrets?

7. How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging on and off since about 2013 I think. But only have just recently began to post consistently.

8. If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Italy.

9. Whats your guilty pleasure?
Ummmmmm I don't think I have one. I think everything I enjoy from books to movies to music, I would have no problem telling you I quite enjoy them.

10. What is your biggest achievement so far?
I guess my biggest achievement thus far is going back to school after a 6 year hiatus and pursuing a degree that I have always wanted to. I still have a little ways to go before I graduate but I am glad I took the steps to go back.

10. What is your favorite book?
11. Do you have any tips for other bloggers?

Affordable PRO Makeup feat. BH Cosmetics

Jul 14, 2017

Bh cosmetics

I have been using BH Cosmetics for years. I started off with their eyeshadow palettes and slowly started to branch out and try other products. Their liquid foundation (my shade is Mocha if you're interested) quickly became my go to foundation for many reasons. The main one being that it matches my skin perfectly! Im not exactly sure when BH cosmetics launched their "PRO" line but I have only recently discovered it. I purchased the PRO finishing powder, setting spray and mattifying primer and I must say for the price, they are all definitely worth a try. The setting spray I love and the finishing powder I love! The mattifying primer is just ok as I find that it really doesn't mattify me but works as a good barrier between my skin and the makeup as a primer should. All these products were under $9 each so if you are a makeup artist starting out or just someone looking to grow their makeup collection without breaking the bank, click on the link above and get to it. BH Cosmetics has everything you need to complete a full face and then some. You will not be disappointed!

Signature Scent: Nirvana Rose by Elizabeth and James

Jul 12, 2017

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose

I have never been the girl to have a signature scent or perfume and that is mostly because I have never been able to find a perfume that I truly love. That I can wear day or night and throughout all seasons without feeling like maybe this is too heavy for summer or too sweet for winter. But then I found Nirvana by Elizabeth and James. When I first discovered this line, they only had two scents: Nirvana Black and Nirvana White. I was immediately drawn to the Violet and sandalwood notes in Nirvana black and so it became an instant favorite. Not long after purchasing Nirvana black, I had to try White, loved it of course. Then I heard Elizabeth and James were dropping two new scents: Nirvana Rose and Bourbon. I immediately ran to Sephora to see what these were talkin' about, I was not disappointed.  With notes of Rose and Geranium, I fell in love with this dark almost masculine take on a rose scent. It's sophisticated without making you smell like an old lady. Whenever I wear any of the Nirvana perfumes I receive loads of compliments. Safe to say I have definitely  found my signature scent.

My Introduction to Korean Skincare

Korean Skincare

In the last year or so, I have been hearing this buzz about Korean Skincare, about how amazing it is and how the rest of the world  really needs to take notes. I have also noticed that there are many more bloggers and YouTubers making content on the subject. Some just trying out certain products and others dedicating themselves to a new beauty routine consisting only of these Korean products. With my 30's approaching a lot faster than I'd like to admit, I have gotten VERY serious about my skin in these last few years. And by serious I mean I am willing to try anything that claims it could turn back the hands of time when it comes to my skin. So of course I had to try out some of this Korean skin care stuff everyone is raving about.
In researching what products to get and where to get them from, I came across a website called Althea. It is a Korean beauty website that ships directly from Korea and has literally EVERYTHING. The prices range from $1 sheet mask to $60 face creams, depending on what you're into. The shipping took about two weeks and your package arrives in the cutest pink box. I have ordered from this site twice with no problems and plan on reordering and trying out other products! Here's what I've purchased so far: (as shown in the picture above, starting clockwise...)

Ruby & Bulgarian Rose Eye Patch: According to the website this product contains ruby powder and Bulgarian rose which keep the skin under the eyes youthful and glowy while also providing high levels of moisture. Some of the reviews said that it helps with puffy eyes so I had to give it a try. I  have used this product a handful of times and haven't really noticed a difference as far as the puffiness goes.

Elizavecca Green Piggy Collagen Jella Pack: I loooooove this stuff! It has really made a difference in my skin and I will definitely be repurchasing. On the website it claims to moisturize, brighten, tighten pores, firm skin and replenish it. It does all of that! It has a bit of a weird consistency but you will get over it after a few uses.

Petitfee Gold & EGF Eye and Spot Patch: This under eye patch claims to have gold as a real ingredient as well as aloe, ginseng and green tea. I will say I like these patches better than the rose eye patch and I do see a noticeable difference after 10-15 mins of wearing them. It also comes with little spot patches in addition to the eye patches which are great!
Laneige lip Sleeping Mask: This lip mask claims to dissolve dead skin cells while you sleep. I will say that it is well worth the money. It moisturizes, smells good and leaves your lips feeling so soft after use.

Feel free to click on any of the links and try out some of these products. I will say when doing your own research pay attention to the ingredients and instructions listed on the site because some of the products will come with only Korean writing on them. As I order and try out more products I will be sure to let you guys know and please comment below and let me know what skin care products work for you!
